Bopup Messenger is an instant messaging system for LANs, which lets you communicate with other users that are on the same network.

The program, despite a simple interface, has a quite complete range of options. In addition to the basic options for exchanging messages with other users, Bopup Messenger includes, for example, lists of ignored users (who don't get your messages), lists for shortcuts to the most contacted contacts, the chance to create groups, logs of all conversations, answermachine for when you aren't there, etc.
